Why Did You Choose Oncology?
I chose oncology because it is a field that is both challenging and rewarding. The almost constant advancements in cancer treatment are exciting as they are allowing patients to live longer with less side effects even compared to 5-10 years ago. Following along with patients throughout their journey is a privilege.
What Do You Enjoy Most About Working at FWMOH?
Our physicians are excellent, compassionate, and will never treat their patients like a number. Patients and their families are treated with the care and respect that they deserve from all staff members from the time they walk in the door. We have a research department that allows patients to undergo clinical trials locally without the stress and expense of traveling long distances. We offer satellite clinics that allow patients to be treated in their hometown without traveling to Fort Wayne. FWMOH also offers office hours 7 days a week to prevent ER visits and hospitalizations. These are just some of the reasons that set FWMOH apart. I enjoy the unique and rewarding relationships that we establish with our patients and their families. I also love learning of the new advancements that occur frequently in cancer care.
What Excites You About the Future?
The oncology field is ever evolving and new treatments are allowing patients to live longer with less side effects compared to traditional chemotherapy treatments. The advancements made in the areas of genetics and molecular targets are allowing treatments to become more individualized, leading to more positive outcomes.
